Frequently Asked Questions

What is the purpose of the run?

HMCS Charlottetown will deploy a running team, support team and potentially a Sea King helicopter with members of the Air Department to PEI from 4-8 Aug 09 to conduct the “Run 4 Wishes”, community activities during the week and naval capability demonstrations in order to raise money for the Children’s Wish Foundation and promote the Navy as an integral part of the community as well as reinforce a positive namesake city relationship with the City of Charlottetown.

Where does the Money Go?

The money raised goes directly to the PEI chapter of the Children’s Wish Foundation.   All the money raised goes directly to helping make a sick child’s dream come true on the Island.

Does all my money go toward the charity?

Every penny of the money raised in this event goes directly to helping a sick child’s dream come true.   This is made possible though the kind support of our many sponsors on the Island.   Please visit our sponsor list for an overview of our generous supporters.

Do I get a tax receipt for my contributions?

Any donation over $10 is eligible for an income tax receipt from the Children’s Wish Foundation.   Any donation over $100 is eligible for a ‘Run 4 Wishes’ T-shirt in addition to the tax receipt.

What are you goals?

Our goal is to raise enough money to grant 4 wishes for sick children on the Island, or a $40000 total.

When is the run?

The run takes place from the 4-8 Aug 2009.

How can I contribute to the charity?

During the run week (4-8 Aug) there will be numerous events in which members of the community can contribute.   All five Sobeyslocations on the Island will be hosting BBQ’s through out the week where the purchase of hotdogs, hamburgers and pop will benefit the charity.   Monetary donations for the Run for Wishes may be given to the run team as it travels the 374km of running routes, to the helicopter at its landing and hoisting sites, and to our mascot, ‘the giant shoe’ at designated sites.   All sites and timings are noted on the run map.

Can I run with the team on the Road?

Yes.   Community support and involvement is a big part of our mission.   Anyone interested in joining our run team on the road is encouraged to contact the team at run4wishes@yahoo.ca so arrangements can be made.

Can I support the team in other ways?

You can support our campaign in many ways from cheering on our runners along the route to engaging the Children’s Wish Foundation for a time donation.   Please contact the foundation to see if you can be of further service.
