About the ‘Run 4 Wishes’

For the past six years the crew of the HMCS Charlottetown has conducted the ‘Run 4 Wishes’ charity event.   The first year our fundraiser was able to generate $3000, but we have since grown considerably and last year we were able to raise just over $63000!   Our mission is to raise money for the Children’s Wish Foundation and promote the Navy as an integral part of the community as well as reinforce a positive namesake city relationship with the city of Charlottetown.   We even have a mascot, our big boot!

Run 4 Wishes continues to grow each year.   From its humble beginnings of a few runners and a chase vehicle, support for this event on the Island has gained momentum as civic and corporate sponsors have reached out to lend a helping hand.   Sobeys has graciously allowed our team to raise money by conducting BBQ’s at each of their five store locations.   Towns and communities all along the run route have worked hard to make generous contributions and create welcoming events for the team as we run through their communities.   The addition of the CH-124 Sea King Helicopter last year made a huge impact as people flocked to each location it landed or hovered.   The Charlottetown Driving Park and Entertainment Center hosted the team for Red Friday while the helicopter made a grand entrance with one of our wish children from 2006, Cameron MacDonald.

This year the Run 4 Wishes team hopes to improve on our success.   Our goal is to raise enough money to grant four wishes (a total of about $40000).   There are a number of ways that you can help make a child’s wish come true. Donations can be made: to team members, to the Sea King air crew, to our mascot the Big Boot as they travel through your community. You can view Running, Boot and Helo schedules on this website under Info. or to the Charlottetown chapter of the Children’s Wish Foundation. There will be a number of events scheduled throughout the week which include BBQ’s at all five Sobeys locations on the Island, and other fund raising events across the island; Listen to K-Rock/ Oceans 100 for daily updates, or pick up a copy of the Guardian newspaper to see what is happening close to where you live.

Finally, you can show your support by running a few kilometers with the team or simply waving as we run by.   If you are interested in running contact us at run4wishes@yahoo.ca.   We would enjoy having your company!
